Volunteer or Adopt at These Kansas City Animal Shelters

Kansas City is a very pet-friendly place. And there are a ton of opportunities for you to meet new friends of the furry variety. Local animal shelters are always looking for volunteers. So we gathered some great Kansas City animal shelters where you can get your four-legged fix.

Wayside Waifs

The largest no-kill Kansas City animal shelter, Wayside Waifs is a sprawling campus located south of the Plaza, and they help thousands of animals every year find their “fur-ever” home. Wayside Waifs always needs volunteers to help walk and transport animals, as well as advise families looking for a new pet. They also host a variety of events every year. From the massive Fur Ball to smaller, less formal gatherings, their events always need volunteers.

Spay and Neuter Kansas City

Spay and Neuter Kansas City is located on the Kansas side of the city, and their mission is to provide education for families and improve the quality of life for pets in the Kansas City area. They are a huge operation. And they always need volunteers to help care for their animals and help at fundraisers like the cheekily-named “Spay-ghetti and No Balls” event.

Kansas City Pet Project

KCPP writes that they save the lives of over 10,000 animals every year, and they refer to their volunteers as one of their most valuable resources. Volunteers at KCPP promote animal welfare and help to make their shelter animals into happier, more socialized pets.

Great Plains SPCA

Great Plains SPCA has locations on both sides of the state line: one in Merriam and one in Independence. They are entirely driven by local support and help to improve the lives of thousands of animals. They also set up tons of fun events like happy hours and gatherings at local parks. So volunteers have a great way to network with other animal lovers.

There are plenty of Kansas City animal shelters around the Kansas City area. These are just a few of the biggest and best. Volunteering with animals is extremely fulfilling, and it is much-needed for both the shelters and the community. Fountain View on the Plaza is a pet-friendly complex; if you fall in love with a four-legged friend while volunteering, they will be welcome with you in your home.
